I'm just a girl so in my country
Work doesn't mean nothing
A good husband I will marry
The sooner, the better: nearly 18 springs
I'm just a girl so in my country
Driving a car isn't allowed
I'll always stay home don't worry
I'll always stay home don't worry
Anyway I have to ask to go out
I'm just a girl so in my country
Well, I have hardly no right
Apart from doing your laundry
Everyone knows I'm not so bright
But didn't you notice anything ?
I'm not just a girl, I'm a human being.
I feel like very concerned by feminism. I know you might think it's strange for a teen but I think each woman should be. I mean, isn't it the right to feel free to have the opportunity to do whatever you dream of ? Or at least being able to even consider it.
In my high school it always bothered me when boys reffered to us as "bonne" (means good) but "DAMN IT,WE ARE NOT A CAKE!" is what I want to shout. And when I feel free to do so boys don't understand why I rebel or they're afraid by the idea of feminism. But I think the recent Emma Watson speech for the campaign HeforShe was totally true. More man must involved for this cause women aren't the only human being on earth and feminism needs everyone to create equality between everyone. Our english literature teacher asked us to write a poem about anything we wanted so I decided to write about men and women equality so that I could read it to the class and touch some of my schoolmates. First I dealed with everyday sexism but everytime I was writing something I felt like I was selfish and that nobody would cared about what I was saying so the night before *the* day I erased everything and started again. Finally I decided to write about sexism around the world. The "girl" I'm talking about is as you can guess from a country somewhere in the Middle East. Don't be shocked by the ironical tone I think it calls the reader even more (it's not to brag but I'm really proud of the last lines!) Anyway I hope that I got yourself to become even a little bit more feminist or if you were one already that you recognized your opinion in the poem,
ENJOY !
Leo.
